The staff was very friendly and kind and all in all it was a very pleasant stay. But, above all I would like to mention Ronald, our guide. He made the whole tour so much more richer! He is a professional, he was kind to share with us his enormous knowledge and experience of the fauna and the flora, culture and more. His English is fluent and he is got a good sense of humor. I indeed gained a whole new perspective about the environments we live in day to day. The room is clean, comfortable, and allows for a true immersive living experience in the Amazon. The entire lodge is very well run, facilities new and nicely maintained, and staff is very helpful. The daily excursions are very well organized - a lot of activities from morning to dusk, but not overwhelming. The travel arrangement between Quito and the lodge is seamless too. I highly recommend Bamboo Lodge, and will encourage my friends and family to visit. This kind of responsible tourism makes the preservation of the Ecuadorian Amazon possible.

Diego, our guide, worked with the boat drivers to spot all sorts of plants and animals throughout the stay. He told us stories about the land and was very knowledgeable and passionate about what we saw.

The meals were delicious, we were happy to be able to get as much as we wanted. All meals are ate with your tour group, which we loved because it brought our group closer.

The lodge offers wifi, drinks, books/games, hot water, and hammocks to relax in. The sightseeing and hiking activities are not mandatory but we did them all because we were so excited to learn more from our guide Diego.

The lodge also works with the local community to rent boats and employs local people on the tours and at the lodge. They are doing such good work in keeping the environmental impact minimal.

This was a marvelous experience that I would recommend to people of all ages! We had the best time.

It was a blessing to have three amazing meals cooked a day—they accommodated for dietary restrictions very well and the food was delicious!

Last but surely not least, our tour guide, Diego, was absolutely amazing. He was incredibly kind and we learned so much from him—our experience would have not been the same without his expertise. He even shared pictures with us at the end of our tour!

As mentioned in many... read more other reviews, Diego was awesome. You can tell he has a passion for wildlife and had an uncanny ability to spot wildlife from what seemed like kilometers away. He speaks English well, is very knowledgeable, made sure everyone had a chance to see whatever he had spotted, and kept us entertained and laughing. When he found out my husband does photography, he tried to get him the best shots possible. We saw 4 types of monkeys, spiders, dolphins, sloths, caiman, toucans, snakes and many types of birds and insects. The lodge was pretty fancy for being out in the middle of the Amazon - but do expect low water pressure, dim lights, heat and bugs because it’s out in the Amazon 🙂 The food was pretty good and varied. The days are very busy and you spend a ton of time with your guide and group. We met some great people and had the best time. Definitely recommend!!

Separate review of the transport to the Amazon which is NOT operated by bamboo lodge - this was the worst experience of our trip. We broke down on the way to the Amazon AND the way back. The first time was a 4 hour period - no communication from the driver on what happened, he left the bus without telling us (apparently hitchhiking to the nearest town) and then we had to wait for a new bus. The second time similar experience - no communication of what was going on and the driver did not stop for 4 hours until one of the passengers had to ask for a bathroom break. If you can afford try to arrange alternative transportation otherwise be prepared for the possibility of a very long terrible night.

The accommodation was much nicer than we were expecting for being in the middle of the jungle, with comfy beds,... read more hot showers, hammocks and a bird watching tower to relax in your free time with. Bamboo Lodge organised a cheap shuttle for us to/from Quito, which was very handy.

We had Jacob take us around the jungle, who was an absolutely excellent guide. He is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the wildlife, has a ridiculously good eye for spotting animals we'd never have seen alone, and is just a really friendly, funny and easygoing guy. Jacob grew up in a community in the Amazon, and has so many interesting insights into this that he is happy to share. We would have loved to have visited his home and the reserve he is building. The fact that he bought this as arid farmland and has rebuilt the rainforest and attracted so many animals to the area is an absolute credit to his passion for wildlife. Could not recommend him more, one of the best guides we've ever had the fortune of having.

The only constructive criticism I'd give is that in organising, Bamboo Lodge could have been more responsive to emails/whatsapp. Saying that though everything went completely smoothly.

  Flawless experience, endless wildlife - Simply put, I had an incredible experience staying at this lodge and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

I stayed at the lodge for 5 days/ 4 nights and... read more defintely wouldn't have wanted any less time. The activities were very well-paced and varied with endless opportunities to look for wildlife while also giving you time to relax and enjoy being in the rainforest. Our guide Diego Bernal had a superhuman capacity to spot wildlife hidden in the trees and, when he learned that I was a birdwatcher, made a particular effort to show me as much of the birdlife as possible including a bonus birdwatching session. He was very knowledgeable about all of the flora and fauna we encountered and was also very considerate on hikes and the boat rides that everyone got a chance to see the animals.

We also benefited from Wiston's expertese on a couple of excursions and found him similarly increidbly well-informed on the wildlife and an enjoyable presence at the lodge.

The food was always excellent, varied and in large enough quantities to satisfy the most hungry of travellers. The lodge itself is increidbly well-maintained and really does look as great as in the photos. All of the staff evidently work incredibly hard to make sure that the guests had a great experience.

I was sorry to leave!

The bus journey- the bus from Quito to Lago Agrio is clearly long but really was totally fine. The driver carefully explained how the route would be split before we left, drove considerately and promptly delivered us to the hotel for breakfast. The return journey took a little longer than planned, but the conditions in the mountains weren't great (very misty and wet) and there's nout you can do about that.

Recommendations- really do bring binoculars, even if just a small pair. You'll get much better views of the wildlife (though Diego did also kindly share his binoculars around the group to those without them).
